O’Reilly “HTML5: Up and Running”

HTML5 is the latest “big deal” in web development, and for good reason. It allows us to build interactive websites without the need for add-ons like Adobe Flash. But it’s also the foundation of a whole new class of deliverables like iOS apps, iTunes LP, iTunes Extras, and iAds. And while those are all Apple-related [...]

Review: Logitech Control Center (LCC) for Snow Leopard

USB Overdrive has been a mainstay on my Macs for a long time, from Microsoft’s first laser mouse to my current Logitech multi-button monster. LCC was always pretty terrible, and a previous version didn’t even recognize all the buttons on my MX1000 (on their own mouse!). But with the recent update for Snow Leopard, USB [...]

Mac Address Book + Sony Ericsson W810i

Review: Dell 2405FPW LCD Display

The nice thing about a review of this large LCD panel is that I don’t need to say much. I bought it to use as a computer display (see other uses below). I plugged it into the PowerBook via DVI when it first arrived, and it sprung to life at full 1920 x 1200 resolution [...]

I purchased this card to pamper a Firewire audio interface, which it does well, leaving my native Firewire ports for other things like hard drives, iPods, etc. Installation was zero effort. Just open up the computer and pop it into an empty PCI slot. Mac OS X 10.4.1 requires no drivers. The ports simply show [...]

Welcome to OS X Tiger!

The new Power Mac G5′s were announced Wednesday morning and I had my Dual 2.7 GHz model by Thursday evening. How hot is that? I’ve been cleaning, moving, plugging and playing ever since. I’m so dusty and tired now.. but I love it. The extended mode Hardware Test just finished running with no errors, so [...]

24 Inches of Glory

My 2405FPW 24″ LCD display arrived this afternoon! It looks fantastic in initial tests running DVI @ 1920 x 1200 from my PowerBook (not its final home). No dead pixels, no stuck pixels, very bright. Gamma and overall color temperature are pretty good at native settings. Grays are slightly red, but I’ll calibrate it later. [...]
