Frank Sinatra - With Love

The Top 20 Most Romantic Cities in the United States are…

  5. Alexandria, VA
  6. Orlando, FL
  7. Vancouver, WA
  8. Cincinnati, OH
  9. Spokane, WA
  10. Dayton, OH
  11. Columbia, SC
  12. San Jose, CA
  13. Murfreesboro, TN
  14. Round Rock, TX
  15. Sioux City, SD
  16. Las Vegas, NV
  17. Pittsburgh, PA
  18. Everett, WA
  19. Erie, PA
  20. Clearwater, FL

This is according to, which says, “The cities were determined by compiling sales data of romance novels and relationship books (both Kindle and print); romantic comedy movies (digital and DVDs); a collection of romantic music, including Dean Martin, Barry White, Luther Vandross, Maxwell and Miguel (CDs and MP3s); as well as the sales of sexual wellness products, among cities with more than 100,000 residents. Sales were tabulated from Jan. 1, 2013.”

Apparently, this is the first time Seattle and San Antonio have made the top 20. And San Antonio shot to the top of the class. Nice work! Washington state, on the other hand, has 4 cities representing. Boom.

San Buenaventura, CA, New York, NY and El Monte, CA round out the bottom of the list. Before you feel too bad for them, there are many cities that didn’t even make the list-of-undisclosed-length, including, ironically, Loveland, CO, Loving, KY, Valentine, NE, Sweet Lips, TN, and Romance, WV.

Lastly, San Jose is great and all, but I don’t know anyone here in the Bay Area that would immediately think of the Silicon Valley when it comes to romanticism. Why not San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, Napa or Santa Cruz? Well, think of the criteria above. Do you buy cook books if you’re a professional chef? Do you buy cough medicine when you’re in top health? Maybe, maybe not.

What do you think? Does your city belong on the list?

Happy Valentine’s Day!
